Declan's German FlashCards is an excellent shareware learning program designed to help us increase our German vocabulary. This software is suitable for complete beginners. The main application window displays two learning sections called Review Words (from where we can review a selected word group), and FlashCards. Both sections display a word/phrase at a time, plus its pronunciation by a native speaker, and its meaning (in English). We are allowed to replay the pronunciation/word as many times as needed. It is possible to go backwards/forwards to the previous/next word. Once we have learned a word, we can drop it from the learning list. Then, we can go and do the multiple and assorted exercises provided. We can practice reading comprehension, listening comprehension, spelling/typing, connecting words with their meanings, etc. We can auto progress and view our score. The free trial version that can be evaluated for 15 days contains two word files. Once registered, we can download and install more audio word files free of charge from the developer's site. The online archive contains over 3500 words and phrases organized by topics, common expressions, verbs, nouns, etc. Adding audio word files is a very easy task and it can be done from the program interface. Now, German FlashCards also runs under Windows Vista.
